How Mission works with D.R. Horton buyers

Their team sells the homes. We work only for you, if you want that.

D.R. Horton’s on-site team knows these communities and will work with you directly if you prefer. Want your own representation instead? We protect your registration on day one, walk the lot with you, press for incentives and closing-cost help, review the contract and design-center pricing, and inspect at pre-drywall and final. Because D.R. Horton typically pays the buyer’s agent, this usually costs you nothing, confirmed in writing before you sign. Here are the pros and cons of having your own agent.

Transparency note. Mission Realty is an independent brokerage and is not affiliated with D.R. Horton. D.R. Horton does not pay to be featured here. If that changes, this line will say so.

Is D.R. Horton a good builder?

The questions buyers actually ask us, answered plainly.

Honest answers, builder-neutral. We keep these current through the monthly refresh.

Is D.R. Horton a good builder?

D.R. Horton builds more homes than anyone in the country, and that scale is the point: competitive pricing and a lot of inventory, especially at the value and first-time-buyer end. The tradeoff is the same as with any high-volume builder, the experience rides on the local crews, so an independent pre-drywall and final inspection is worth every dollar. Several Richmond prices here are single-source, so confirm the current number before you rely on it.

Can you negotiate with D.R. Horton?

D.R. Horton is one of the more aggressive builders on incentives, especially rate buydowns through its own DHI Mortgage and deals on quick move-in homes. Base prices move less; the financing and spec-home incentives are where the value is. We track what they are offering in Richmond each month.

Do you need your own agent to buy a D.R. Horton home?

No. D.R. Horton’s on-site team will work with you directly, and many buyers go that route. You can also bring your own agent, and because D.R. Horton, like most production builders, typically pays the buyer’s agent, having your own representation usually costs you nothing. We lay out the pros and cons of each path, and what each costs you at the design center and at closing, in a separate guide.

Does D.R. Horton build entry-level homes in Richmond?

Affordable and first-time-buyer housing is where D.R. Horton is strongest nationally, and it has brought value product (historically under its Express Homes brand) into the Richmond market. Its current Richmond communities run from that value end up through larger single-family and a 55+ line in Hanover. Tell us your budget and we will point you to the right end of their range.

Where does D.R. Horton build in the Richmond area?

Across the region: Chesterfield (Chester, North and South Chesterfield), Henrico, and Hanover (Mechanicsville). Prices run from the $360s for its value product to the $450s and up for larger and active-adult homes, so the right D.R. Horton community depends a lot on which part of the region you want and what you want to spend.
