The builder

Virginia’s largest private homebuilder, based here.

Eagle Construction of VA is Richmond-based, founded by Bryan Kornblau in the mid-1980s, and is the largest privately held homebuilder in Virginia. It is part of Markel | Eagle Partners, backed by Markel Ventures. It builds about 300 homes a year in Central Virginia, mostly in the move-up, luxury, and active-adult range, which is why it closes fewer homes than the production builders but at a much higher average price.

How Mission works with Eagle Construction buyers

Their team sells the homes. We work only for you, if you want that.

Eagle Construction’s on-site team knows these communities and will work with you directly if you prefer. Want your own representation instead? We protect your registration on day one, walk the lot with you, press for incentives and closing-cost help, review the contract and design-center pricing, and inspect at pre-drywall and final. Because Eagle Construction typically pays the buyer’s agent, this usually costs you nothing, confirmed in writing before you sign. Here are the pros and cons of having your own agent.

Transparency note. Mission Realty is an independent brokerage and is not affiliated with Eagle Construction. Eagle Construction does not pay to be featured here. If that changes, this line will say so.

Is Eagle Construction a good builder?

The questions buyers actually ask us, answered plainly.

Honest answers, builder-neutral. We keep these current through the monthly refresh.

Is Eagle Construction a good builder?

Eagle is the other strong local, higher-end option on this list alongside Main Street. As the largest private builder in Virginia, it has deep Central Virginia roots and a move-up and 55+ focus, with several age-restricted communities that are hard to find elsewhere. You are generally paying more than a production builder, for a more tailored home in a well-located community. Keep your own inspections regardless.

Can you negotiate with Eagle Construction?

Because Eagle builds in the move-up and luxury range, the value is less about base-price discounts and more about lot selection, included options, and its quick move-in and final homes. Several of its communities have move-in-ready inventory now, which is usually where the incentives sit. We track what is available each month.

Do you need your own agent to buy a Eagle Construction home?

No. Eagle Construction’s on-site team will work with you directly, and many buyers go that route. You can also bring your own agent, and because Eagle Construction, like most production builders, typically pays the buyer’s agent, having your own representation usually costs you nothing. We lay out the pros and cons of each path, and what each costs you at the design center and at closing, in a separate guide.

Does Eagle Construction build 55+ communities in Richmond?

Yes, and that is one of its real strengths. Eagle has several active-adult, age-restricted communities in the region, including The Parke at Cold Creek in Moseley and Sweetspire in Glen Allen, with first-floor living and low-maintenance yards. If 55+ new construction is what you want, Eagle belongs on your short list, and we can line its communities up against the other 55+ options on this page.

Where does Eagle Construction build in the Richmond area?

Across the region: Henrico (Glen Allen and the West End), Hanover (Mechanicsville), Chesterfield (Midlothian and Moseley), and Goochland (Manakin-Sabot). Prices run from the $390s for cottage and townhome-style homes to about $860,000 for single-family in Short Pump, so the right Eagle Construction community depends a lot on which part of the region you want and what you want to spend.
