McKesson Medical-Surgical Is Becoming Wellverse, and Staying Put in Innsbrook

A modern low-rise glass and dark-panel corporate office building with landscaped grounds and a parking lot in a suburban office park.

One of Henrico’s larger office tenants is getting a new name and, for now, staying put. McKesson Medical-Surgical, the medical products distributor anchoring the Marwaha Business Plaza office building at 9954 Mayland Drive near Innsbrook, announced it will rebrand as Wellverse starting in January 2027 as it spins off from parent company McKesson Corp, according to Richmond BizSense’s Jack Jacobs and RVAHub’s Trevor Dickerson.

What’s Actually Changing

President Stanton McComb told BizSense the company’s roughly 1,000 Richmond-area employees will stay in the same building, where McKesson Medical-Surgical has leased about 119,000 square feet as anchor tenant since 2014. That building was formerly known as Deep Run III and was originally part of Circuit City’s headquarters campus before McKesson moved in. “Our commitment is to absolutely keep our headquarters here,” McComb said.

The bigger story is the spin-off itself. McKesson Medical-Surgical posted $11.5 billion in revenue and $938 million in operating profit for fiscal year 2026, and investment firm Apollo Global bought a 13% stake for $1.3 billion as part of the separation. An IPO is targeted for the second half of 2027. If it goes through at anything close to that scale, this would be a new Fortune 500-caliber company headquartered in Henrico – not a hypothetical, since the company already employs about 7,800 people nationwide and runs 15 distribution centers.

Why the Building and the Area Matter

McComb was direct about the near-term real estate question: no plans to leave that Mayland Drive building, though the company may need to grow its footprint in the area as headcount increases. That’s a meaningfully different signal than the kind of “consolidating and pulling back” corporate real estate news we’ve covered elsewhere in Henrico, like the GreenCity developer’s Chapter 7 filing. An anchor tenant renewing and planning to expand in place is about as strong a signal as commercial real estate gets for a submarket.

The Innsbrook corporate corridor and neighboring West Broad Village have built their identity around exactly this kind of large corporate office tenant, the same way western Henrico’s residential neighborhoods have built theirs around a short commute to those offices. Henrico County’s own Innsbrook Area Study puts the office park at 1,351 acres and 8.6 million square feet of office and commercial space, including the former Circuit City headquarters site that now houses McKesson Medical-Surgical. A 1,000-person employer that says it’s staying and growing is a data point worth knowing if you’re deciding how much of a commute premium to pay for a house in that corridor, and it’s worth browsing what’s available across Henrico right now while you weigh it.

What We’re Watching

None of this is finalized. The rebrand itself starts rolling out in January 2027, the IPO is targeted for the second half of 2027, and McComb has said growth beyond the current building could mean either expanding on Mayland Drive or looking elsewhere in the area – he did not commit to a specific plan. We’ll follow up once Wellverse actually goes public and any real estate decisions firm up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is McKesson Medical-Surgical’s headquarters?

At the Marwaha Business Plaza office building, 9954 Mayland Drive, near Innsbrook in Henrico County.

When does the Wellverse name take effect?

The company says the rebrand begins rolling out in January 2027, phased across communications and systems rather than switching over all at once.

Is the company leaving Richmond?

No. Leadership has said it intends to keep its headquarters in the same Henrico building, with about 1,000 local employees, though it may need more space as it grows.

Why is this happening?

McKesson Medical-Surgical is spinning off from parent company McKesson Corp and moving toward an independent, publicly traded status, with an IPO targeted for the second half of 2027. Investment firm Apollo Global has already bought a 13% stake.

Would Wellverse be a Fortune 500 company?

Based on its reported $11.5 billion in fiscal year 2026 revenue, it could plausibly rank on that list once independent, though the company itself has not speculated on where it would land.

Does this affect home values near Innsbrook?

We haven’t seen data isolating an effect from this specific announcement. A major employer committing to stay and potentially grow is generally a positive signal for a submarket’s office and housing demand, but it’s one factor among many.
