This Saturday, October 24
The Virginia Capital Trail Foundation says the Dominion Energy Cap Trail Classic is on Saturday, October 24, with a half marathon making its debut, a 10-mile run, a 5K and the Mummy Mile. A Finish Line Party Zone has music, local vendors and the event’s first awards ceremony, and every finisher gets a medal. This is a cup-less race: water stops have no disposable cups, so bring your own bottle or collapsible cup. Venture Richmond’s Halloween roundup lists a 7 a.m. start.
Two free markets share the day, according to that roundup. The Coven and Craft Market at Quirk Hotel runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Spookeasy Punk Rock Flea Market and Street Fest at 17th Street Market runs 12 to 7 p.m., with local makers, food trucks, costume contests and live music.
Thursday, October 29 to Sunday, November 1
The Trunk or Treat listing says the RVA Department of Transportation is hosting Richmond’s first Trunk or Treat at Main Street Station on October 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. It is free and includes candy, games, music, food and a traffic garden tied to the city’s Vision Zero program.
The Eerie Canal Halloween Cruises page describes 20-minute narrated boat rides along the historic James River and Kanawha Canal, themed around solving the case of the Mural Monsters. Boats leave on the hour and half hour from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, October 30 through Sunday, November 1, with the last departure at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $6 and children aged four and under are free. The page says the cruise is best suited for ages four and up. Boats leave from the Turning Basin at 139 Virginia Street.
Halloween afternoon, Saturday, October 31
The Richmond Symphony page lists the Halloween Spooktacular at the Carpenter Theatre at 3 p.m. on October 31. The program mixes Danse Macabre and Night on Bald Mountain with music from Stranger Things and Harry Potter. Boo-Fest opens at 1:30 p.m. with crafts, games, face painting and an instrument petting zoo, and it is included with a concert ticket. Costumes are encouraged. Venture Richmond lists general admission at $30. The Symphony page does not list a price, so check the ticket page before you buy.
Two free daytime markets also fall on October 31, per the Venture Richmond roundup: the Howloween Market at Daisy’s at Tredegar, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a Halloween Market at Benchtop Brewing, 1 to 5 p.m.
What we left out
The same roundup lists many evening parties, bar crawls and club nights with age limits and cover charges. We skipped those, along with anything we could not tie to a date and time. The roundup says it adds listings weekly, so check it again before the weekend. For earlier dates, see our guide to Richmond fall events through mid-November and our list of neighborhoods for trick-or-treating.
Where these events sit on the map
Main Street Station is at 1500 E. Main Street, and the canal cruises leave from 139 Virginia Street. Our City of Richmond hub lists neighborhood pages for the city, including Shockoe Bottom, Shockoe Slip and Jackson Ward. We rank no area by event proximity, because we only state what a public source confirms. If you are comparing areas for a move, our buying page explains how we work, and you can contact us with questions.
