Richmond-Area Neighborhoods Near Public Playgrounds, Spray Parks and Skate Parks: Eight Areas Checked Against City and County Parks Pages

Eight Richmond-area neighborhoods have a playground, spray park, splash pad or skate park listed on an official parks page, and they split three ways: Henrico lists the most spray parks and both of its skate parks, Chesterfield lists one splash pad at a time, and the City of Richmond lists playgrounds but no splash pad or skate park on the park pages we loaded. This guide matches each park to the neighborhood whose name it carries or whose community page best fits the address the parks department prints.

There is no public dataset that measures distance from each home to each park, so nothing here is a ranking and no home prices are used. The eight areas are in alphabetical order. Parks pages were read on Oct. 29, 2026, and several still carried summer hours, so confirm season and hours with the park before a visit.

Where the three parks departments differ

Henrico Recreation and Parks publishes a page for each park with an amenity list, hours and rules. That is where the spray parks and both skate parks below come from. Chesterfield County keeps a playgrounds list that links to facility pages with addresses, and a splash pad appears on only two of the facility pages used here. The City of Richmond describes each park in prose on rva.gov, so a playground shows up as a sentence rather than a checklist item.

Hanover, Powhatan and Goochland parks pages were not part of this edition. If one of those counties matters to you, start from the county hubs for Hanover, Powhatan and Goochland and ask us to check the park you have in mind.

Eight areas, in alphabetical order

Church Hill: Chimborazo Playground

The city’s Chimborazo Park and Playground page lists the playground at 29th and East Grace Street, says it was renovated in 2009 and notes that it includes a community garden. The park itself is a separate 30-acre site at 3201 East Broad Street. Who it is wrong for: anyone who needs a splash pad or skate park, because neither appears on that page.

Forest Hill: Forest Hill Park

The city page for Forest Hill Park gives the address as 4021 Forest Hill Avenue and lists a children’s playground along with tennis courts, picnic shelters, a lake and trails. Who it is wrong for: a buyer who wants water play or a skate park on the same site, since the listing names neither.

Glen Allen: Dunncroft/Castle Point Park and others

Dunncroft/Castle Point Park is listed at 4901 Francistown Road with play equipment, a spray park, trails, a picnic shelter and an 18-hole disc golf course. The page shows spray park hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily and says the spray park would stay open until at least Labor Day, so treat those hours as seasonal. Other Henrico parks with a Glen Allen mailing address include Echo Lake Park (play equipment, a fishing lake and a half-mile nature trail), Springfield Park (a picnic shelter and playground) and Pouncey Tract Park (an accessible and inclusive playground beside a 24-court pickleball complex). Who it is wrong for: someone set on a skate park, because Henrico’s are in Laurel and Sandston.

Laurel: Laurel Recreation Area and Skate Park

Henrico’s Laurel Recreation Area & Skate Park page lists a skate park, athletic fields, a playground and a picnic shelter at 10301 Hungary Spring Road, open daily from dawn to dusk, weather permitting. Helmets are required, skateboards, BMX bikes with a gyro, non-motorized scooters, in-line skates and Heelys are the permitted equipment, and the rules say to skate at your own risk. The park carries the Laurel name but carries a Glen Allen mailing address, so look at a map for the home you are considering. Who it is wrong for: anyone who wants a spray park here, because the page lists none.

Midlothian: The Park at River City Sportsplex and Clarendon Park

Chesterfield’s River City Sportsplex page gives 13030 Genito Road, Midlothian, and lists a 2,000 square foot splash pad that operates from late spring through summer, with play areas for ages 2-5, 6-11 and 12 and up plus an intergenerational space. Admission is free. Clarendon Park is listed at 2428 Brookforest Road with a playground, picnic tables and trails. Who it is wrong for: a skate park seeker, as no Chesterfield skate park appeared on the pages we loaded, and anyone who wants splash pad access in winter.

North Side: Battery Park

The city page for Battery Park lists 2803 Dupont Circle and describes two children’s playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, a community center with a free computer lab and a swimming pool. It also says the building is currently closed for renovations, and the city aquatics page marks the outdoor pool closed for the season. The city’s Spring and Summer 2020 Parks and Recreation Digest marks a splash pad at Battery Park Community Center, but that document is six years old and the current park page does not mention one, so call the center at (804) 646-0944. Who it is wrong for: a buyer counting on a confirmed splash pad or an open building this winter.

Sandston: Taylor Farm Park

Taylor Farm Park, at 200 Whiteside Road, is described by Henrico as its newest park. The page lists an All Wheel Park with a skate park, a flow bowl and pump track, and a BMX dirt skills course, plus a nature play area and water play that includes a play stream and a spray park. The skate park and flow bowl are listed as open until 10 p.m., helmets are required, and the rules bar use when surfaces are wet. Who it is wrong for: a rider who wants a course available in rain, since the page says the dirt courses are probably closed when it is raining or has recently rained. The county also lists the smaller Sandston Recreation Area at 11 J B Finley Road with play equipment, tennis and pickleball.

Twin Hickory: Twin Hickory Park

Twin Hickory Park is listed at 5011 Twin Hickory Road and opened in July 2014. The page lists walking trails, a picnic shelter with restrooms and two playgrounds, one for ages 2-5 and one for ages 6-12. It also lists a spray park, which Henrico calls small and zero-depth and describes as intended for children 12 or under with adult supervision. Who it is wrong for: a buyer who wants a larger water feature or a skate park.

Other listings worth a look

Short Pump Park at 3329 Pump Road lists spray fountains and play equipment, which makes it relevant to Short Pump. In Chesterfield, Beulah Park at 6901 Hopkins Road lists a splash pad, and its page said the pad would close for the season at 7 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2026 for maintenance. We do not yet have a community page for that area, so the nearest hub is Chesterfield County.

One planned change is on a public record. Henrico’s Tuckahoe Park page says the Board of Supervisors awarded a contract on Aug. 25, 2026 for improvements that include a new accessible playground, with completion anticipated in spring 2028. It is the only park here where the playground does not exist yet, and it falls near Tuckahoe.

How to check a park before you rely on it

Open the park’s own page and read three lines: the address, the hours and the season note. Then map the address from a listing you like and measure the route yourself, because the parks pages give no distance to any neighborhood. For the wider search, compare what the City of Richmond, Henrico County and Chesterfield County list, and use our property search to filter to the areas above. Our roundups of neighborhoods next to a major park and neighborhoods near public recreation centers with aquatics cover related amenities. If the price range is still open, the mortgage calculator and our featured lenders page are the next stops, and our buyer services explain how we work.

Where are the skate parks?

Henrico lists the Laurel Recreation Area & Skate Park on Hungary Spring Road and the All Wheel Park at Taylor Farm Park, which includes a skate park and flow bowl. No Chesterfield or City of Richmond skate park appeared on the official pages used for this guide.

Are spray parks and splash pads open in winter?

The pages read for this guide show seasonal operation. Chesterfield says the River City Sportsplex splash pad operates from late spring through summer and the Beulah Park pad closed for the season on Sept. 7, 2026. Henrico’s spray park pages say they would stay open until at least Labor Day. Confirm with the park before a visit.

Do these pages say how far each park is from nearby homes?

No. They list addresses, amenities and hours only. Map the park address and a listing address and measure the route yourself.

Why are Hanover, Powhatan and Goochland not covered?

Their parks pages were not part of this edition, so we made no claims about them. The county community pages are linked above, and we can check a specific park on request.

Is any new playground planned?

Henrico’s Tuckahoe Park page says the Board of Supervisors awarded a contract on Aug. 25, 2026 for improvements that include a new accessible playground, with completion anticipated in spring 2028.

This guide uses no price data and makes no claim about value. Ask us for recent sold prices in a specific area if you want them.
