Richmond-Area Neighborhoods Near a Public Disc Golf Course

Published November 2026 | Written by the Mission Realty Team.

Five public parks around Richmond have a disc golf course that a city or county parks page confirms: Dunncroft/Castle Point Park in Glen Allen, Bryan Park on the North Side, Gillies Creek Park below Church Hill, Dorey Park in Varina and Goyne Park in Chester. A course is a fun reason to like an area, but it is only one reason, so weigh the drive, the commute and the house itself before you let a park decide.

There is no official list of every disc golf course in the region, and some courses sit on private or campus land. We only included courses named on a locality’s own parks page, and we left out anything we could not confirm there.

How we built and ordered this list

We checked the parks pages for the City of Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield and Hanover on November 5, 2026. Henrico’s park amenities page lists exactly two parks under disc golf. The City’s Gillies Creek Park page names two city courses. Chesterfield’s Goyne Park page confirms one. Hanover’s park listing does not name disc golf, and we did not find a county page confirming a course, so no Hanover park appears here.

The list runs roughly north to south by park location. That makes it easy to match a course to the side of town where you already work or plan to live.

Park Locality Holes listed on the official page Nearest Mission Realty area pages
Dunncroft/Castle Point Park Henrico 18 Glen Allen
Bryan Park City of Richmond Not stated North Side, Lakeside
Gillies Creek Park City of Richmond 18 Church Hill
Dorey Park Henrico 18 Varina
Goyne Park Chesterfield 18 Chesterfield, Ettrick

Glen Allen: Dunncroft/Castle Point Park on Francistown Road

Henrico’s Dunncroft/Castle Point Park page gives the address as 4901 Francistown Road, Glen Allen, and lists trails, a picnic shelter, a play area, a spray park and an 18-hole disc golf course. It is the only county course on the north side of Henrico County.

A spray park and play area at the same park mean summer weekends can be busy, which matters if you are looking at homes on the streets that lead to the entrance. Glen Allen covers a wide area, so the drive to the park varies a lot by address. Check the route from a specific home, not just the ZIP code.

Wrong for: buyers who want to walk to the course from a new subdivision a few miles west. In much of Glen Allen you will drive to this park.

North Side and Lakeside: Bryan Park

The City of Richmond’s Gillies Creek Park page calls that park a favorite of disc golf fans “in addition to Bryan Park,” which makes Bryan Park the city’s other public course. The city page does not list the number of holes at Bryan Park, so we do not either.

Bryan Park sits on the city’s North Side, next to Henrico’s Lakeside area. It is also where the city’s share of the Fall Line Trail is planned to begin, which we cover in neighborhoods near the Fall Line Trail.

Wrong for: buyers who want no construction nearby in the next few years. The city plans a Fall Line Trail segment and a trailhead in Bryan Park.

Church Hill and the East End: Gillies Creek Park

The city page puts Gillies Creek Park at 4425 Williamsburg Avenue in the East End, at Stony Run Drive and Williamsburg Road. It describes a 40-acre park with the city’s only BMX race track, horseshoe pits and an 18-hole disc golf course. Homes in Church Hill are the closest of our area pages.

The same page says a foundation is working with the city on plans to connect a series of parks into an urban greenway. That is a plan, not a schedule, so do not price a home on it.

Wrong for: buyers who want a course with a pro shop, rental discs or a clubhouse. The city page lists none of those.

Varina: Dorey Park, with a link to the Capital Trail

Henrico’s Dorey Park page lists the park at 2999 Darbytown Road and describes an 18-hole disc golf course. The page also says a connector trail now runs from the Virginia Capital Trail into the park, nearly three-quarters of a mile to the recreation center. That makes Dorey the only course on this list tied directly to a regional trail. The same page describes about five miles of trails built for horseback riding and a horse ring open to the public during the week, so the park draws riders as well as disc golfers. Our roundup of neighborhoods near the Virginia Capital Trail covers more of eastern Henrico.

Wrong for: buyers who commute to the far West End every day. Varina is on the opposite side of Henrico.

Chester: Goyne Park, with a school-hours rule

Chesterfield’s Goyne Park page gives the address as 5300 Ecoff Avenue, Chester, and says the eastern part of the park has an 18-hole disc golf course. It also says the public cannot use the course during school hours. Chester does not have its own Mission Realty page, so start with our Chesterfield County hub and the nearby Chesterfield and Ettrick pages.

Wrong for: players who want to play on a weekday morning or early afternoon. The school-hours rule rules that out.

What a nearby course does and does not tell you about a home

A park near a home is a lifestyle plus, but it is not a housing record. Before you write an offer, check these on the specific address:

  • Drive or walk time. Map the route from the front door to the park entrance, not to the park’s center.
  • Park plans. Parks change. Look up the locality’s parks page for planned work before you assume a course will stay as it is.
  • Parking and event traffic. If the home is on a street that leads to a park entrance, visit on a weekend.
  • The house itself. Inspection, budget and loan approval matter far more than any amenity.

Disc golf fans often like other park features too. Compare our roundups of neighborhoods next to a major park and neighborhoods near public golf courses. Then browse homes for sale and run the numbers in our mortgage calculator.

Disc golf and home buying: frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay to play these courses?

We did not see a disc golf fee on the official parks pages we read on November 5, 2026. Fees and rules can change, so check the park’s page before you go.

Do I need my own discs?

Plan on it. None of the official parks pages we read mentions disc rentals at these courses, so bring your own set until you confirm otherwise with the park.

Can I reserve a disc golf course for a tournament?

Henrico’s Dorey Park page says to call the park office to schedule a tournament there. For the other parks, ask the city or county parks department that runs the park.

Are there disc golf courses in Hanover County parks?

Hanover’s park listing did not name disc golf when we checked on November 5, 2026, and we did not find a county page confirming a course. Contact Hanover Parks and Recreation if a specific park matters to you.

Does living next to a park cost more?

We do not have a published dataset that measures a price difference near these parks, so we will not guess. Compare recent sales on the same street and a few blocks away with your agent.

Can I bring my dog to these parks?

Rules differ by park. Dorey Park has a posted dog park with its own rules, and Goyne Park’s page lists a dog park as well. Check each park’s page for leash rules on the course.

How do I find out if a course is closed?

Check the parks page for that locality before you drive over. Henrico’s parks site has a notices and closures section, and the City of Richmond’s parks page lists an inclement weather line. Storm damage and maintenance can close a course for a day or longer.

Which course is closest to downtown Richmond?

Of the five, Bryan Park and Gillies Creek Park are the two inside the City of Richmond. Which is closer depends on where downtown you start, so map it from your office.
