Plenty of Richmond-area commuters want a downtown job without driving the whole way: a short drive to a lot, then someone else handles I-64, Powhite Parkway or Huguenot Road. No public dataset ranks neighborhoods by how close they sit to a park-and-ride lot, and we are not going to invent one. This guide sticks to what GRTC publishes – named lots, route numbers, stops and timetable pages – and says plainly where a claim stops.
What GRTC’s Express Network Actually Includes
GRTC’s Park-N-Ride page ties four express routes into the downtown Business District to four lots: the 29x Gaskins Express (Gaskins & Mayland), the 64x Stony Point Express (Bon Air Baptist Church), the 82x Commonwealth 20 Express (Commonwealth Center 20) and the 95x Richmond-Petersburg Express (Petersburg Transit Center). We read the route pages for the 29x, 64x and 82x, and all three list Monday through Friday trips only, with a handful of departures in the morning and late afternoon. That is a commuter product, not all-day service.
If you want frequent all-day service instead, read our guide to neighborhoods along GRTC Pulse and frequent bus routes. If your job is in a West End office park rather than downtown, start with commuting to West End office parks, and for the other direction see commuting south toward Petersburg and Fort Lee.
The picks below run west to south and then to the downtown end of the line. That is geography, not a ranking. Each one names something you can check yourself, and each says who it is wrong for. We make no price claims here; for what is actually listed today, use the Richmond-area property search.
Innsbrook: The Gaskins & Mayland Lot and the 29x
The 29x is the northern express. GRTC’s 29x route page describes it as “Downtown Richmond to Gaskins & Mayland Park-N-Ride via I-64,” serving the City of Richmond and Henrico County, with downtown stops at Broad + 9th, 14th + Franklin and 7th + Marshall. The page lists five morning departures from the lot, the first at 6:25 am, and a few afternoon trips back. Google Maps places the lot at an Innsbrook address, which is why we match it to the Innsbrook community page in Henrico County.
Innsbrook’s own community page calls it one of the region’s largest business hubs, with office campuses, restaurants and nearby residential communities, so a commuter lot here sits inside a working district. Check the drive or walk from any address to the lot yourself; we did not measure distances from specific streets.
Wrong for you if your shift ends after about 6:15 pm or starts before 7 am, since the posted trips are clustered in the peak windows. Also wrong if you need a bus on Saturday: the page shows none.
Bon Air: The 64x Lot on Buford Road
Chesterfield County’s public transportation page names the lot for the 64x: Bon Air Baptist Church, 2531 Buford Road, with the bus stop on Choctaw Road. GRTC’s 64x route page describes the route as “Downtown Richmond to Bon Air Baptist Church Park-N-Ride via Huguenot Road.” The Bon Air community page in Chesterfield County covers the historic village and the neighborhoods around it.
One thing to confirm before you plan around it: the route description names the Bon Air Baptist Church lot, but the timetable on that page ends the line at a stop labeled Duryea + United Methodist Church (old Gun). Call GRTC customer service, (804) 358-4782, to confirm exactly where you board before you let it drive a home purchase.
Wrong for you if you work anywhere other than downtown. The 64x only goes there, and the timetable shows a few trips each way, not a bus every few minutes.
Get a Saved Search for These Commuter Neighborhoods
Tell us which of these areas you are weighing and we will set up a saved search in the Richmond-area property search, so new listings in Innsbrook, Bon Air, Forest Hill, Midlothian and Monroe Ward reach you as they appear.
Forest Hill: Stops on the 64x South of the James
You do not have to drive to the Bon Air lot to use the 64x. The timetable on GRTC’s 64x page includes stops at Forest Hill + Lansdale, Forest Hill + Huguenot School and Forest Hill + the driveway to Stony Point Shopping Center, and lists Huguenot High School, Stony Point Shopping Center and the Forest Hill Walmart as places of interest. The Forest Hill community page describes the neighborhood as south of the James River, close to parks and outdoor recreation, with easy access to downtown, in the City of Richmond.
That makes Forest Hill the one pick here where you may be able to walk to the bus instead of driving to a lot. We have not measured walking distance from any particular street, so test it from the address you are considering.
Wrong for you if you need midday or evening flexibility. The timetable shows only a few trips each way, in the morning and late afternoon, and you would plan your day around them.
Midlothian: The Commonwealth Center Lot and the 82x
The 82x is the Powhite Parkway express. GRTC’s 82x route page describes it as “Downtown Richmond to the Commonwealth Centre Park-N-Ride via Powhite Parkway,” serving Chesterfield County and the City of Richmond. Chesterfield’s transportation page places the lot at Commonwealth Center Parkway in Midlothian. On the 82x page, two morning trips leave the lot (6:30 am and 7:15 am), arriving at 9th + Cary at 7:00 and 7:45, and three afternoon trips return from downtown.
The Midlothian community page calls the area a blend of historic charm and modern suburban development, with parks, retail centers and a mix of established and new neighborhoods. That breadth is the point: Midlothian is large, so the lot only helps if your address is a short drive from Commonwealth Center Parkway. Pick the street first, then check the drive.
Wrong for you if you need to be downtown later than 7:45 am. The page posts only those two morning arrivals.
Monroe Ward: The Downtown End of the Line
All four express routes finish downtown, with stops GRTC lists at 9th + Cary, Broad + 11th, 14th + Franklin and 8th + Cary, and with Pulse connections at Government Center and VCU Medical Center. The Monroe Ward community page describes the neighborhood as in the heart of downtown Richmond, with historic architecture and a mix of residential buildings and local businesses. If your job is downtown, living here removes the park-and-ride step altogether. We did not verify which individual stops fall inside the Monroe Ward boundary, so check a map for the building you are considering.
Wrong for you if you want a yard or a driveway: the community page describes residential buildings, not detached houses. It is also the wrong pick if your job is not downtown, because the express routes only help the commute into it.
Checks Before You Buy Near a Lot
Pick the schedule first and the house second. Ride the route at the time you would actually commute, because published trips are few. Confirm the boarding stop with GRTC, since the 64x page’s description and its timetable name different end points. Talk to a lender before you fall for a house near a lot; our preferred lenders can walk you through options. If you are early in the process, how we work with buyers explains what to expect.
Not every lot on GRTC’s list is an express stop. The Park-N-Ride page marks the Parham Road and Glenside lots as rideshare lots and shows White Oak Village serving local routes 7A, 7B and 91, so do not assume a lot name means express service.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is parking free at the GRTC park-and-ride lots?
GRTC’s Park-N-Ride page describes the lots along its express routes as free, safe, well lit and easily accessible. It does not list a street address for each lot, only map links, so use those links to see exactly where to park.
What is the 95x, and does it fit this guide?
The 95x Richmond-Petersburg Express runs from downtown Richmond to the Petersburg Transit Center via I-95, according to GRTC. We did not match it to a neighborhood because the Petersburg lot is outside the markets we cover; our south-of-Richmond commuting guide covers that direction.
Are Parham Road and Glenside express lots?
No. GRTC’s Park-N-Ride page lists both as rideshare lots, not express stops. White Oak Village is listed for local routes 7A, 7B and 91.
How current are these schedules?
GRTC’s 64x page showed a last-modified date of July 12, 2026 when we read it in October 2026. Timetables change, so call GRTC customer service at (804) 358-4782 before you plan around a specific trip.
Do homes near a park-and-ride cost more?
We cannot say. No dataset we trust isolates the effect of a nearby lot, and a county or ZIP-level number would not describe one lot. Use the property search to see what is listed near the lots you care about.
Is an express bus the same as Pulse?
No. Express routes are weekday commuter trips from a suburban lot to downtown, while Pulse is GRTC’s bus rapid transit line. The express route pages list Government Center and VCU Medical Center as Pulse connections, and our Pulse and frequent routes guide covers the Pulse side.
