Six businesses passed our check: three wineries, one cidery and two pick-your-own farms, spread across Richmond, Chesterfield County and Hanover County. We read each one’s own website in November 2026 to confirm it is open and to copy down the street address. We found none we could confirm in Powhatan or Goochland, so we left those two counties out instead of guessing.
No public dataset ties a winery or farm to a neighborhood, so this list is organized by locality and not ranked. Mission Realty is a brokerage. We earn nothing from these businesses, and we have not measured drive times from any home to any of them. Check the route yourself before you let it drive a decision.
The six places, with street addresses
Each row comes from the business’s own page. Hours change by season, so call before you go.

Chesterfield County: three stops
Ashton Creek Vineyard sits on Route 1 in Chester. Its site lists a tasting room, a farm-to-table menu, a wine shop and a wine club. Hours posted there are Wednesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. We saw no chain branding. Chester has no community page of ours, so the closest match is the Chesterfield County hub.
Waters Edge Winery Midlothian is a franchise, and it is not a local brand. Midlothian is where it opened. Richmond BizSense reporter Jackie DiBartolomeo wrote on September 8, 2026 that it is the first Waters Edge winery bistro franchise in the region and one of 14 U.S. locations open or soon to open. The brand started in California in 2004. Franchisees Paul and Rebecca Williams run this location. The doors opened August 17, 2026 with a soft launch, and the article reports hours of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily except Monday. It makes wine in town from imported grapes and juice, with no vineyard on site. Read the full BizSense report for details. The article’s address is off Charter Colony Parkway, and we have no page for Charter Colony, so see the Chesterfield County hub.
Chesterfield Berry Farm is in Moseley. Its own site says the 2026 strawberry season began April 18 and that pick-your-own pumpkins return in the fall. The page we read did not list fall 2026 dates, so call (804) 441-1034 before you drive out. Moseley has no page of ours, so see the Chesterfield County hub. We could not find the owner named on the site, so we will not describe it as locally owned.
Hanover County: a winery and a farm market
James River Cellars has a Glen Allen mailing address on Washington Highway, and the county tourism listing we read places it in Hanover County. The mailing address says Glen Allen, but the county listing is Hanover. Its site posts tasting room hours of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Closed Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. A tasting of eight wines costs $16 per the site, and a four-wine flight is also $16. The site says the winery was founded by Ray Lazarchic, opened to the public in 2001, and is now run by his daughter Mitzi and her husband James. See the winery’s own page.
Hanover Vegetable Farm is on Ashland Road in Ashland. Its site lists open seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., from March 1 to November 1. From today, November 2, the posted off-season schedule is Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The page also mentions a pumpkin patch whose picking begins September 27, though it does not state a year. Ashland has no page of ours, so see the Hanover county page.
City of Richmond: one cidery
Blue Bee Cider has a tasting room at 4811 Bethlehem Road in Richmond. Its site lists Wednesday to Friday, 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, 12 to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 12 to 6 p.m. It sells ciders made from Virginia heirloom apples, flights and glasses, and describes the room as family and pet friendly. We did not find any chain branding on the site, though the site does not state ownership either.
Want homes listed near these six places?
Tell us which of these stops matter to you, and we will set up a saved search for the areas named above: Richmond, Chesterfield and Hanover. New matches will arrive as they list.
Which of these are chains, and which are not
- Waters Edge Winery Midlothian: part of a franchise brand founded in California in 2004. The brand is not local.
- The other five: their own sites do not describe them as part of a chain, and we saw no chain branding. Where a site does not state ownership, we left it unstated.
What we could not confirm
We also looked in Henrico, Goochland and Powhatan. In Goochland we found a tasting room that was still under construction on the page we read and an older winery page that looked out of date, so we did not list either. In Powhatan and Henrico we found nothing we could verify as open today. If you know of one, send us the link through our contact page and we will check it. This is a list of verified sites and not a complete census.
Using this list when you search for a home
Start with the address on the business’s own page, then check the drive from each home you like at the hour you would go. Tasting rooms keep later hours on Fridays and Saturdays, and pick-your-own farms slow down in the off-season. If you are weighing rural land, our homes with acreage search is one place to start, and our guide to areas for horse property and hobby farms covers that side of the map. If a weekly market suits you better than a farm drive, see neighborhoods within walking distance of a farmers market. The state parks and nature preserves guide pairs well with a farm day.

Frequently asked questions
Is Waters Edge in Midlothian a local winery?
No. Richmond BizSense reported on September 8, 2026 that it is the region’s first Waters Edge winery bistro franchise, part of a brand that began in California in 2004. The franchisees, Paul and Rebecca Williams, run this location.
Does Waters Edge grow its own grapes?
Not at this site, per BizSense. The concept turns imported grapes and juice into wine on site, and the article said on-site production had not started yet when it ran.
Which wineries on this list have a food menu?
Ashton Creek Vineyard lists a farm-to-table menu on its site. Waters Edge’s BizSense write-up lists appetizers, charcuterie, sandwiches, flatbreads and desserts. James River Cellars lists food pairings among its events and a picnic setting.
How much is a tasting at James River Cellars?
Its site lists $16 for a guided tasting of eight wines and $16 for a four-wine flight, with glasses extra. Prices can change, so confirm when you call.
Is Hanover Vegetable Farm open on Sundays in winter?
Its site lists Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., for November 2 to February 28. Sunday is not listed in that stretch.
When can you pick strawberries at Chesterfield Berry Farm?
Its site said the 2026 strawberry season began April 18. Pumpkin picking is mentioned for fall, but the page we read gave no fall dates, so call (804) 441-1034.
Why is nothing listed in Powhatan or Goochland?
We could not confirm a currently operating winery, cidery or pick-your-own farm there from its own site or a county tourism page. We chose to leave those counties blank rather than guess.
Can I see homes near one of these places?
Yes. Use our saved search for the areas named and we will send new matches. We have not measured drive times, so check each route on the day and time you would go.
