Mike Hatch, who owns Brandermill Country Club and Birkdale Golf Club in Chesterfield County, has bought Green Club, an indoor golf simulator venue in Midlothian. Richmond BizSense reporter Michael Schwartz reported the deal on October 28, 2026. It closed this month for a price that was not disclosed.
This is a business sale, not a land deal, so nothing in the report points to a change for nearby homes. Below is what was reported, what was not, and what to check if golf is part of how you pick a Chesterfield neighborhood.
What BizSense reported about Green Club
Green Club sits at 6109 Harbourside Centre Loop in Midlothian, in a space of about 1,700 square feet next to a First Watch restaurant. Founders Kyle Petersen and Jarad Earley opened it about two years ago. It has golf simulator hitting bays, a putting green and a 24-hour self-serve membership that members use with a key fob or phone app.
The founders ran it as a side project while holding other full-time jobs and raising young children. They told BizSense the sale felt bittersweet, and they hope to keep playing there as members.
Why an outdoor club owner wanted an indoor venue
Hatch’s company, Acumen Golf, now includes Green Club alongside Brandermill Country Club and Birkdale Golf Club. It also manages Lake Chesdin Golf Club, which makes three Chesterfield courses. Hatch said Acumen has around 1,000 members across those clubs.
His stated reasons were practical. An indoor venue lets members play year-round and brings in revenue during slower winter months. He told BizSense that building his own simulator space at Brandermill would have cost more than $500,000, so buying an existing business made more sense. BizSense notes that the region has a growing number of indoor golf businesses.
One detail from Hatch stands out. After a member event at Green Club, he said, “I didn’t realize a lot of people just play indoor golf.”
What the report does not say
BizSense does not give a purchase price, say whether Green Club’s membership prices will change, or describe any plan for the Harbourside Centre Loop space beyond keeping the venue running. It also says nothing about neighboring homes. We are not adding speculation. If the venue’s format or prices change, the owner’s announcements to members will be the place to find out.
What it means for homes near Chesterfield golf
The article describes the sale of a business and does not mention any housing. For a buyer, it mostly shows that golf operators are adding year-round options. It says nothing about what a nearby house costs to own.
If you are weighing a home near a golf course, treat club membership and community association dues as separate questions. Neither follows automatically from the address, and the BizSense report does not link any membership to any neighborhood. In Virginia, the resale of a home in a community association generally comes with the association’s resale certificate, and the purchase contract must tell you so. Under Code of Virginia 55.1-2308, the contract carries that disclosure. Under 55.1-2312, you may cancel within the period in the contract, or within 3 days if it sets none. If the certificate never arrives, you may cancel any time before settlement. Read the certificate for dues and rules before you rely on any assumption about a golf neighborhood.
