Richmond’s baseball team has something to celebrate this fall. RVAHub reported that the Richmond Flying Squirrels were named Minor League Baseball’s 2026 Organization of the Year, capping a first season at the new CarMax Park.
Here are the numbers behind the honor, what is coming in 2027 and how the ballpark fits into the neighborhoods around the Boulevard.
A Record Season at CarMax Park
CarMax Park opened this spring, and fans showed up. The team drew a record 468,961 fans for the season, an average of 7,105 per home game. The award recognizes the franchise as a whole, including fan experience, community work and operations.
The ballpark has been a long time coming. For background on the stadium debate that preceded it, read our post on the Diamond District lawsuit and our update on the amended Diamond District plan.
What Is Next: The 2027 Opener
The Flying Squirrels open the 2027 season on April 2 against Altoona. Fans planning ahead can check the schedule and ticket information on the team’s official MiLB page.
Before then, the area around the ballpark will keep changing. Winter brings events at the ballpark itself, which we cover in our WinterWorld at CarMax Park guide.
The team also published a promotional schedule in the spring, which RVAHub covered. Expect similar theme nights, giveaways and fireworks dates to be announced for 2027 in the months ahead.
Living Near the Boulevard Corridor
A baseball season brings game-day traffic, parking demand and a lively evening atmosphere to nearby streets. Buyers who like that energy may enjoy neighborhoods within walking or biking distance. Start with our guides to the North Side, the Fan and Scott’s Addition, all of which sit within a short trip.
Buyers who prefer quieter streets should visit during a home stand to see how game days feel. The City of Richmond guide compares more areas.

More Richmond Events to Plan For
The ballpark is one of many draws. See the Richmond events page and our posts on the Richmond Folk Festival and the brewery-friendly neighborhoods for more ideas.

A full ballpark season also supports nearby restaurants, bars and shops, which can influence how a neighborhood develops. When you tour homes in the area, walk to the ballpark and back on a game night if you can. Notice the crowd levels, the noise after the final out and where visitors park, because those details matter more than any listing description when you live close by.
Ask your agent about parking rules on your street, too. Some Richmond blocks use resident permits and others do not, and a home with off-street parking can be worth more to a buyer who lives near a busy venue.
A record-setting season and a national honor are good news for a team that spent years waiting on a new home. If a move near the ballpark is on your list, our preferred lenders can help you understand your options.
