Richmond-Area Neighborhoods Near a Live Music Venue or Theater

Red theater curtains on a stage

Published November 2026 | Written by the Mission Realty Team.

Six areas around Richmond and Henrico County have a live music venue or theater you can place on a map from the venue’s own page: The Fan, Monroe Ward, Jackson Ward, Innsbrook, Glen Allen and Highland Springs. No public dataset ranks homes by distance to a stage, so this post starts from venue addresses and tells you where to begin measuring. We did not measure walking or drive times. Check each one on a map before you tour.

Mission Realty is a brokerage, so we benefit if you find a home. This is not paid placement. The order is geographic: west of downtown first, then downtown, then north and east in Henrico County.

The short list, with the fact behind each pick

Venue Where, per the venue or county Number stated by that source Neighborhood pages to open
Altria Theater 6 North Laurel Street, across from Monroe Park 3,565 seats; opened October 1927 The Fan, Monroe Ward
Dominion Energy Center 600 E Grace Street, downtown Almost 3,000 parking spaces within two blocks Monroe Ward
The National 708 E. Broad Street Parking decks directly behind the venue Jackson Ward
Innsbrook Pavilion 4901 Lake Brook Drive, Glen Allen 2026 concert season announced Feb. 24, 2026 Innsbrook, Glen Allen
Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen 2880 Mountain Road, Glen Allen Nonprofit foundation supports the center Glen Allen
Henrico Theatre In Highland Springs Main theatre holds up to 400; opened 1938 Highland Springs

West of downtown: The Fan, Monroe Ward and the Altria Theater

The Altria Theater history page gives the address as 6 North Laurel Street and places the building across from Monroe Park, in the middle of the Virginia Commonwealth University campus. It opened in October 1927 as the Mosque Theater and lists 3,565 seats. The Fan is the neighborhood whose streets start at the same park, and Monroe Ward sits between The Fan and the downtown core. That placement comes from a general neighborhood map, not from the venue page, so confirm it on your own map.

What to expect: a large hall means big-event nights bring traffic and parking demand around campus. Look at a block on a Friday evening before you decide. If you want a quieter street, ask us for options one or two blocks away.

Wrong for: Buyers who want a driveway and a quiet street on show nights. Near a 3,565-seat hall, check parking rules on the block you like.

Downtown: Dominion Energy Center and The National

The Dominion Energy Center visitor page lists 600 E Grace Street and three spaces inside: the Carpenter Theatre, the Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse and Bob and Sally Mooney Hall. It says almost 3,000 parking spaces sit within two blocks, with different decks for matinees and evening shows. That is a number from the venue itself, and it tells you the area is built around event parking.

The The National venue info page gives 708 E. Broad Street and says parking decks sit directly behind the venue. Broad Street is the southern edge of Jackson Ward on most maps, so Jackson Ward is the neighborhood page to open first. Again, confirm the walk on a map.

Wrong for: Anyone who needs a yard or off-street parking at the front door. Downtown stays tied to decks and meters, according to the venues’ own parking notes.

North and east in Henrico County: Innsbrook, Glen Allen and Highland Springs

The WTVR report of Feb. 24, 2026 says After Hours Concerts will hold its full 2026 season at the Innsbrook Pavilion, 4901 Lake Brook Drive in Glen Allen. It also says the Doswell location is on hiatus for the year. Seasons can change, so check the promoter’s calendar before you count on a given date. The pavilion sits inside Innsbrook.

The Henrico County page for the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen foundation gives 2880 Mountain Road, Glen Allen. It is a nonprofit that supports the center and sets policy for it. That makes Glen Allen a place with both a large outdoor stage and a smaller performing arts center, each on a different road.

Wrong for: Buyers who want zero summer concert noise. If you buy near Innsbrook, ask for the 2026 concert calendar and visit on a show night.

The Henrico County page for the Henrico Theatre says the theatre first opened as a movie palace in 1938 and now hosts arts programs and movies. The main theatre holds up to 400 and the building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Henrico County bought it in 1998. It sits in Highland Springs.

Wrong for: Buyers who want a large nightly music scene. The Henrico Theatre is a 400-seat room with scheduled programs, per the county.

What these pages do not tell you

Venue and county pages give addresses, seat counts and parking notes. They do not give walking times, noise levels on a given street, or how many events a venue books in a year. We left those out on purpose. Anything you read about them elsewhere without a source is a guess.

Two things worth doing yourself: count the events on a venue calendar for one month, and stand on the street at show time. Both take less than an hour and tell you more than a map does.

Distance also depends on how you get around. A venue that is a short walk for one buyer can be a drive for another, and a street with permit parking changes the math on game and show nights. Ask your agent to check the parking rules for the exact block, since rules differ by street and by locality.

How to check any of these before you tour

  • Pull up the venue’s calendar and count events in a typical month.
  • Visit at 6:30 pm on an event night and again on a quiet weekday.
  • Read the parking notes on the venue page, then look at the street you like.
  • Measure the route on a map and note the street you would use to get home after a show.
  • Ask us to pull recent sales and active homes through our property search.

Pair this with our other guides: neighborhoods near museums, galleries and performance venues and neighborhoods you can walk to a brewery from. When you are ready to talk about a budget, our preferred lenders page lists lender partners, and our buying page explains how we work. For Richmond events beyond concerts, see our events calendar.
