Yes, you can match several Richmond-area neighborhoods to a public skate park, bike skills area or mountain bike trail, and each one below comes from a park or county page. The strongest pick for trail miles is Chesterfield, home of Pocahontas State Park with about 44 miles of single-track, per the state. We could not verify a public bike park or skate park for every area, so the list is short on purpose.
The order is geographic: Richmond first, then Chesterfield County, then Henrico County, then Hanover County. We did not measure drive or walk times, and no public dataset ranks homes by distance to a trailhead. Mission Realty is a brokerage, so we benefit if you buy through us. This is not paid placement.

Inside the city: Manchester, Forest Hill and Belle Isle
The James River Park System trails page describes the Buttermilk Trail as three sections along the south side of the river. Buttermilk East runs from the Manchester Bridge to 22nd Street and connects to the Floodwall Trail. The page rates the full Buttermilk at 2.5 miles, difficult. That makes Manchester the neighborhood page to open if you want a trailhead near the Manchester Bridge. Confirm the exact walk on a map.
The same page says the Forest Hill Park Trail starts at the Reedy Creek lot, through the tunnel under Riverside Drive. It lists 3.2 miles, moderate, and open to bikes. Start your search in Forest Hill, then measure from the street you like to that lot.
Belle Isle sits mid-river and is reached by a pedestrian footbridge from the north bank or a service bridge from the south bank. The page lists a bike skills area there for practicing before the harder trails. It also says Belle Isle has 3 miles of trails, easy to moderate. The park says to avoid riding when trails are wet, so check conditions before you go.

Skate parks: Carter Jones Park and Laurel
The City of Richmond parks guide lists Carter Jones / Fonticello Park at 2813 Bainbridge Street in Richmond. A 12 On Your Side report by Kelly Avellino, July 2013 says the city agreed to fund the $70,000 concrete course across from the tennis courts, with volunteers helping build it. The article says the course has at least half a dozen concrete ramps, jumps and rails. Check the park’s current condition before you plan around it.
In Henrico County, the Henrico Recreation and Parks page for Laurel Recreation Area & Skate Park gives the address as 10301 Hungary Spring Road in Glen Allen and says it is open daily from dawn to dusk, weather permitting. It requires helmets at all times and allows skateboards, non-motorized scooters, in-line skates and BMX bikes with a gyro. Our directory has a page for the Laurel community, while the park’s address is in Glen Allen, so compare both on a map.
Mountain biking south of the river: Chesterfield
The Virginia State Parks page on Pocahontas mountain biking lists about 44 miles of single-track and about 64 miles of gravel fire roads at Pocahontas State Park, 10301 State Park Rd, Chesterfield. It names three systems: Morgan at 11.6 miles, Lakeview at 9.9 miles and Swift Creek at 22 miles of machine-built flow trail. A park parking fee must be paid at all times, and the page asks riders not to use wet or muddy trails. Chesterfield County homes around the park are worth a look if trail time matters to you.
North of the city: Mechanicsville and Hanover County
The Hanover County page for Pole Green Park lists a skate park at 8996 Pole Green Park Lane in Mechanicsville, plus a walking trail and a cross country running course. It does not list a bike park or mountain bike trails. We have no community page for Mechanicsville, so start with the Hanover County hub and use the address to measure.
What these pages do not say
None of these sources give drive times, noise levels or how busy a trail is on a Saturday. We left those out. The park pages also do not say what lies next to a trailhead or what may be built nearby, so ask the county planning office about a specific parcel before you rely on any view or buffer.
Conditions change. The state and park pages both ask riders to skip wet trails, so a trail that is open in spring may be closed after a storm. Check the park’s own status page on the day.
