Tous Les Jours Bakery Is Coming to Commonwealth Centre Parkway Near Brandermill

Richmond BizSense reporter Jack Jacobs reported on October 5 that Tous Les Jours, a French-Asian bakery chain known for breads, pastries and coffee, is lining up a new location at 4537 Commonwealth Centre Parkway in the Brandermill area of Chesterfield County. It would be the chain’s second Chesterfield bakery, with no opening date given.

What Richmond BizSense reported about the two sites

Per BizSense, the bakery would take 4,500 square feet that a Kid to Kid resale store left about a year ago. It shares a building with Uptown Cheapskate and sits near a Target. The second Chesterfield site is at 7401 Midlothian Turnpike, a former car dealership near Chippenham Square and its New Grand Mart anchor, and it is already under construction. The chain, owned by Seoul-based CJ Group, has more than 200 U.S. locations and currently runs one Richmond-area bakery inside Lotte Plaza Market in western Henrico.

What it means for the Brandermill side of Chesterfield

Our read, not BizSense’s: this is a vacancy getting filled by a food tenant. A year-old empty storefront turning into a bakery cafe adds a daytime reason to stop that the shopping area did not have before, and it follows other food and coffee news on the corridor, including a third cafe at Centerpointe Commons. Brandermill itself is a lake-centered neighborhood, covered in our Living in Brandermill guide and our roundup of lake and reservoir neighborhoods.

Brandermill does not have its own page in our community directory, so the closest neighbors with pages are Woodlake, Midlothian and Salisbury. New rental housing is also arriving close by: see The Lake, 258 for-rent units next to Brandermill.

Two sites, two corridors

The Midlothian Turnpike location and the Commonwealth Centre Parkway location are different retail settings. One is a car-lot conversion beside an Asian grocery-anchored center; the other is a former resale shop beside a national big-box store. A chain choosing both inside one county suggests it sees demand on both sides of Chesterfield, though the company has not said so and we are not claiming a reason. Official county planning information is available from the Chesterfield Planning Department, and the county zoning process page explains how rezonings are handled. The county’s comprehensive plan update is the larger framework for where commercial and residential land use go next.

What to watch

Watch for an opening announcement, signage and permit activity at both addresses. If you are weighing a move to this part of the county, our buying guide and active listings are the next stops, and our Chesterfield County hub links to every neighborhood we cover there.

Questions about the Brandermill bakery

When will the Commonwealth Centre Parkway bakery open?

Richmond BizSense did not report an opening date for the 4537 Commonwealth Centre Parkway space, and we have not found one from the company. Treat any date you see elsewhere as unconfirmed until the chain or the landlord announces it.

Where is the other new Chesterfield location?

BizSense reports a second Chesterfield bakery under construction at 7401 Midlothian Turnpike, in a former car dealership near Chippenham Square, a shopping center anchored by New Grand Mart. That puts one site on the Midlothian Turnpike corridor and one on the Brandermill side of the county.

Is there already a Tous Les Jours in the Richmond area?

Yes. BizSense says the chain’s one existing Richmond-area bakery is inside Lotte Plaza Market in western Henrico County. The two Chesterfield sites would be its first in the county.

What was in the space before?

The 4,500-square-foot space was home to a Kid to Kid children’s resale store, which moved about a year ago, according to BizSense. The building is shared with Uptown Cheapskate and sits near a Target.

Does a bakery taking over an old retail space need a rezoning?

The reporting does not say, and we did not confirm any application. Chesterfield’s zoning process page describes rezoning, conditional use permits and similar requests, and says that process takes a minimum of four months. For a specific address, the county Planning Department lists 804-748-1050 and [email protected].

Will a new bakery change nearby home values?

No dataset we know of ties a single opening to nearby sale prices, so we will not put a number on it. Checkable signals are how long nearby homes sit and what they sold for, which you can browse in our recently sold properties and compare with active listings.

What else is Chesterfield planning that could affect this part of the county?

The county is updating its comprehensive plan after last year’s zoning modernization, covering the land-use map, transportation, public facilities and housing. Chesterfield’s announcement lists a public hearing in October and final Board of Supervisors approval by December 2026.
