Henrico County announced on October 19, 2026, that Varina District Supervisor Tyrone E. Nelson will host two Community Conversations town hall meetings. The first is Monday, November 2, at 6 p.m. at the Varina Area Library, 1875 New Market Road. The second is Wednesday, November 4, at 10 a.m. at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Road. Both offer in-person and virtual attendance.
Our source is the county’s news release, an unsigned county posting, so there is no reporter to credit. For background we used the county’s September release on Rebuild Henrico and its Affordable Housing Trust Fund page. This is our own summary, with local context added. More coverage is in our Richmond area news posts.
What the meetings will cover
The release lists four topics: an overview of Henrico’s affordable housing initiative, the Rebuild Henrico project, and updates from the Police Division and from the Planning and Public Works departments. Virtual attendees can use the WebEx session links in the release or dial the number it lists. Each meeting has its own webinar number, so check the release for the one that matches your session. Residents are encouraged to send questions ahead of time, and the release gives a county phone number, 804-501-4208, along with an email address.
Background: Rebuild Henrico
The county’s September release described Rebuild Henrico as an enhanced countywide reinvestment initiative. Its first step was the purchase of two vacant Williamsburg Road properties, the former Bowl America at 5018 Williamsburg Road and the former All Day Inn at 5500 Williamsburg Road, with the goal of clearing and marketing them as redevelopment sites near Richmond International Airport. According to that release, the Henrico Economic Development Authority bought the All Day Inn in May for $3 million and expected to close on the Bowl America property for $2.9 million. It also says the Board of Supervisors has adopted the recommendations from a 2019 community design workshop for the corridor, which call for a mix of hospitality, retail, commercial, residential and other uses. We covered that announcement when it came out, in our earlier Rebuild Henrico post. We have not seen a published schedule for redevelopment, so the town halls are a reasonable place to ask.
Background: the Affordable Housing Trust Fund
The county page says the fund was established in 2024 to expand options for first-time homebuyers purchasing in Henrico. It uses taxes paid by new data centers to lower the purchase price of newly constructed homes, and both for-profit and non-profit developers can apply for funding and fee waivers. The county names the nonprofit Partnership for Housing Affordability as the administrator. The partnership’s homebuyer page says the program serves first-time homebuyer households with limited incomes, sets income limits by household size, and attaches covenants that keep the homes affordable and owner-occupied.
What it means for Varina area buyers
The release announces meetings, not a new program or a rule change, so nothing in it changes prices or financing today. For buyers, the useful part is access: the town halls are a direct way to hear county staff describe the affordable housing initiative and Rebuild Henrico, and to ask how either might reach Varina and Sandston, both covered through our Henrico County community hub. If you are a first-time buyer interested in newly built homes, read the partnership’s eligibility rules before you shop, since income limits and the first-time buyer definition apply. Our new construction homes search shows builder listings across the region, and our preferred lenders page lists lenders who can answer financing questions.
