Richmond-Area Neighborhoods Along Route 10: Chester, Enon and the Road to Hopewell

Route 10 is a main east-west road across southern Chesterfield, and the short answer for buyers is this: it connects you to Route 288, I-95 and I-295, and the Route 288 and I-95 junctions both have county or VDOT work dated between now and 2030. If you buy near it, plan on living with some of that work, and plan on most errands being a drive.

One more thing up front: two of the best-known places on Route 10, Chester and Enon, do not have Mission Realty community pages yet. We still cover them below and point you to the nearest pages we do have.

How this comparison works

We list places west to east, the way Route 10 runs from the courthouse area toward Hopewell. It is an order on the map, not a ranking. No public dataset gives neighborhood-level commute times for the Richmond area, so we do not quote any. Each place is tied instead to the official project pages for its stretch, all read on November 5, 2026, with the dates those pages state.

Places without a community page are linked to the Chesterfield County hub and the two nearest pages we have, Chesterfield and Ettrick.

Route 10 at a glance

Place (west to east) Our community page Route 10 project we found Date stated on the official page
Chesterfield courthouse area Yes (Chesterfield) Route 288 to Courthouse Road weave mitigation Construction anticipated to begin spring 2027
Chester No I-95 auxiliary lanes, Route 288 to Route 10 Completion anticipated December 2026
Chester No I-95 and Route 10 interchange, Phase B Public hearing planned February 2027; construction anticipated 2030
Enon No Route 10 widened to eight lanes, Bermuda Triangle Road to Meadowville Road Construction completed August 12, 2024
Enon No Enon Church Road shared-use path, Dodd Park to Perch Point Road Construction anticipated in 2030
Bermuda Hundred No North Enon Church Road and Bermuda Hundred Road intersection study Study completion anticipated end of 2026
Ettrick Yes None. Ettrick is not on Route 10 None

Sources: Chesterfield County project pages for the weave mitigation, I-95 auxiliary lanes, I-95 and Route 10 interchange, Route 10 widening, Enon Church Road path and Bermuda Hundred Road study.

The courthouse area: where Route 288 meets Route 10

Our Chesterfield community page covers a broad area around the county seat, and Route 10 crosses Courthouse Road there. The county’s weave mitigation project targets one specific headache: drivers coming off Route 288 southbound onto Route 10 eastbound who need to cross lanes fast to turn left onto Courthouse Road. The fix widens the off-ramp to three lanes, adds a signal and adds a Route 10 lane. If Route 288 is your main road, our Route 288 corridor guide covers that side.

Wrong for: buyers who want to avoid ramp traffic at their front door. The county is fixing this junction because drivers have to weave across lanes in a short distance, and construction there is still ahead.

Chester: is the I-95 interchange a plus or a problem?

Both. Chester has no Mission Realty page yet, so use the Chesterfield County hub with Chesterfield and Ettrick as the nearest pages. Route 10 crosses I-95 in Chester, which is why so much of the work here is on the interstate. The county lists auxiliary lanes on I-95 between Route 288 and Route 10, with completion anticipated in December 2026. A larger rebuild of the I-95 and Route 10 interchange (Phase B) has a design public hearing planned for February 2027 and construction anticipated in 2030.

For a buyer, that means easy I-95 access now and a long construction runway later. If your job is south of here, our guide to commuting south to Petersburg and Fort Lee covers the Chester options in more depth.

Wrong for: anyone planning to stay well past 2030 who dislikes interchange construction near home. The county page shows the major interchange work is still ahead, not behind.

Enon: the widened stretch toward I-295

Enon has no Mission Realty page either; start with the Chesterfield County hub and the nearest pages, Chesterfield and Ettrick. Its stretch of Route 10 is the one where the big job is already done. The county’s widening page says Route 10 between Bermuda Triangle Road and Meadowville Road was widened to eight lanes, with a rebuilt signal at Meadowville Road, and that construction was completed on August 12, 2024.

The next project here is smaller: a shared-use path on Enon Church Road between Dodd Park and Perch Point Road, federally funded, with construction anticipated in 2030. I-295 is the other key road on this side, and we cover its exits in neighborhoods near I-295 exits, so we will not repeat them here.

Wrong for: buyers who want a quiet two-lane feel on the main road. An eight-lane Route 10 is built for volume, and homes closest to it will hear it.

Bermuda Hundred: off Route 10, waiting on a study

Bermuda Hundred has no Mission Realty page; use the Chesterfield County hub and the Chesterfield and Ettrick pages as starting points. The project that matters here is not on Route 10 itself. The county is running a study of the North Enon Church Road and Bermuda Hundred Road intersection for safety and operations. The page says VDOT comments are being addressed and the study should be finished by the end of 2026. A study is not a construction promise, so do not buy expecting a new intersection on a date.

Wrong for: buyers who want certainty about the roads near home. Until the study is done, nobody can tell you what, if anything, will change at that intersection.

Ettrick: why it is on this list, and why it is not on Route 10

We are including Ettrick for one reason: it is one of the two Mission Realty community pages nearest to Chester. It is not on Route 10. Our Ettrick page describes it as a historic community near the Virginia State University campus, and our boundary map puts it several miles south of Route 10. If you want a Route 10 address, Ettrick is not it. If you want to be near Chester but on the Petersburg side, it is worth a look.

Wrong for: anyone whose daily trip runs east on Route 10 toward Enon or Hopewell. From Ettrick, you have to get to Route 10 first.

What about Hopewell?

Route 10 continues east into the City of Hopewell. Hopewell is outside the six localities we cover, so we do not have a page for it, and we have not reviewed its project list. If your job is there, the Enon stretch is the closest part of our area, and the full list of places we do cover is on our communities page.

Three questions to ask about any Route 10 house

Which junction will I use every day? Route 288, I-95 and I-295 each have their own project timeline above. Match the house to the one you will actually use.

When does the work near me start and end? Use the dates in the table, then check the county page again before you sign, since dates move.

What does the commute cost? Put your fuel and time next to the payment in our mortgage calculator. For the other routes in this series, see our Hull Street (Route 360) guide and our Midlothian Turnpike (Route 60) guide.

Let us build your Route 10 search

Pick the stretch that matches your daily junction and we will set up the saved search for exactly those areas, then drive the route with you at your real commute hours before you make an offer.

Frequently asked questions

Why don’t Chester and Enon have Mission Realty community pages?

We have not built them yet. Until we do, the Chesterfield County hub and our Chesterfield and Ettrick pages are the closest starting points, and we can set up a saved search for Chester or Enon directly.

Is the Route 10 widening in Enon finished?

Yes. Chesterfield County’s project page says construction on the Bermuda Triangle Road to Meadowville Road stretch was completed on August 12, 2024.

When will the I-95 and Route 10 interchange be rebuilt?

The county page for Phase B says a design public hearing is planned for February 2027 and construction is anticipated to begin in 2030. Those are planning dates, so check the page again before you rely on them.

Is Route 10 a toll road?

No. None of the Route 10 project pages we read mentions a toll. The Richmond-area toll roads are covered in our separate toll commute guide.

Does GRTC run buses on Route 10?

We did not find a GRTC local route named for Route 10 on GRTC’s system map. The map does list stops on Route 1 at the Bermuda Square and Breckenridge shopping centers. Plan on driving for most Route 10 trips.

Can I see commute times for Chester or Enon?

No public dataset gives commute times by neighborhood here. Drive the trip yourself on a weekday at your usual hours, ideally after the I-95 auxiliary lanes open.

Who do I contact about a Chesterfield road project?

Each county project page lists a Transportation Department contact at (804) 748-1037. VDOT runs several of the interstate projects, and their pages name a VDOT contact as well.
